I always thought that the composer was some unknown person but according to stories, it isn't.
It seems like the composer was a poor farmer who fell in love with an astrocratic lady. Both of them loved each other dearly. This very song was written by the farmer for his lover. However, the dad soon found out about the romance and forbade the girl from ever seeing him again. He tried to throw the farmer into jail thus the farmer and the girl eloped to South America.
That's why no one ever knew who wrote it. He could not be named or else he would be killed.
